The West Pier at Eyemouth Harbour has reopened to the public following works to enhance safety and access over the summer months.
The Trust are grateful to Scottish Government, Scottish Borders Council and the Place Based Investment Fund for enabling the project through a grant award. The Eyemouth Harbour Pier Access Enhancement Project aims to enhance safe access to the West Pier for all who work, live and visit the town.
The works were recently completed by SBc Contracts, who were awarded the contract after a competitive tendering process, and the Trust acknowledge the high quality of the work carried out. Eyemouth Harbour Trust CEO, Christine Bell, said “As well as providing a safe working environment for our team and other businesses, these handrails significantly enhance access and safety, particularly for visitors attracted to walk along the pier to enjoy the lively atmosphere of the bustling harbour and beach. With Eyemouth now also the destination of the much-welcomed Kirkpatrick Coast to Coast cycle route, we also see more cyclists visiting the area. Ultimately, we want to ensure it is a safe space for all to enjoy.”
